This lens is currently the widest zoom lens available for full frame mirrorless cameras. Designed primarily for travel photography, we have managed to compress the size to the smallest in its class, less than 9.1 cm (3.6 in.) long and only 496 g (1.1 lb.). The 130° (10mm) to 102° (18mm) angle of view provides flexibility for photographers to compose landscape or architecture photos with ease. The aperture blade system is carefully designed to produce the best sun-star renderings among all UWA lenses on the market. This is currently the world’s widest native zoom lens for full frame mirrorless cameras. It provides a wide range of perspective from 130° (10mm) to 102° (18mm) and it is excellent for landscape or architecture photography. An ordinary sunstar rendering can often be a deal breaker for landscape photographers. Our new Laowa 10-18mm, however, has been carefully designed to incorporate 5 straight aperture blades to produce well-defined, sharp and clean 10-stroke sunstars. “At 10mm, you will see sunstars already at the maximum aperture of f/4.5” comments by Bastian Kratzke from phillipreeve.net. A photographer cannot create a great landscape photo without using a filter. We have conveniently designed a 37mm filter thread into the back of the lens for photographers to use ND filters with ease.
Due to its extreme compact size, our lens is able to take 100mm-wide filter systems as opposed to the much bulkier and more expensive 150mm systems required by other UWA lenses.
A new Laowa 100mm magnetic front filter holder has been developed to accept 100mm-wide filters. Unlike conventional filter holder systems, with slots to hold the 100mm filters in place, we have developed a magnetic filter holder that lets you easily attach 100mm filters onto the holder. A special magnetic frame is available to convert most 100x100mm or 100x150mm filters into magnetic filters. This removes the inconvenience associated with slide-in filters, prevents light leaks and reduces or removes vignetting that usually occurs when using multiple filters. The magnetic holder can hold at least 2 100mm-wide filters without vignetting.
